Understanding the iKhedut Mobile App

An overview of the iKhedut mobile application, its purpose for geo-tagging, and how it streamlines the subsidy verification process.

While the primary iKhedut web portal is designed for farmers to submit applications, the Government of Gujarat has also deployed the iKhedut Mobile App (often referred to in iterations like iKhedut 2.0). However, there is often confusion among farmers regarding what this app is actually used for. This guide clarifies the role of the mobile application in the subsidy ecosystem.

Is the App for Farmers or Officials?

Currently, the primary function of the specialized iKhedut mobile applications is to assist government officials, Gram Sevaks, and verification officers, rather than being a direct application tool for the farmers themselves.

While farmers use the main web portal (often via computer centers) to apply for a Tractor Subsidy or Solar Pump, the officials use the mobile app to ensure the subsidies are being utilized correctly.

The Power of Geo-Tagging

The most critical feature of the mobile app is Geo-Tagging. In the past, physical verification of purchased assets was slow and prone to corruption. The mobile app has revolutionized this process to ensure transparency:

  • On-Site Verification: When a farmer claims they have installed a new drip irrigation system or purchased a rotavator, an official visits the farm.
  • Photographic Evidence: The official uses the app to take a live photograph of the farmer standing with the new equipment.
  • GPS Location: The app automatically captures the exact GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) of where the photo was taken, proving the asset is actually on the farmer's land.
  • Instant Upload: This data is instantly synced to the central servers, expediting the release of funds via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

What This Means for the Farmer

As a farmer, you don't necessarily need to download the official verification app. Instead, you need to be prepared for the verification process:

  1. Ensure you have applied correctly using our Registration Guide.
  2. Keep the equipment on your farm and do not sell it, as the official will need to photograph it on-site.
  3. Cooperate with the Gram Sevak when they visit to perform the mobile verification.

If you want to know if the verification stage has been reached, you can use the web portal to check your progress. Learn how in our guide on How to Check Application Status.
