Eligibility Criteria for Farmers: What You Need to Know
Ensure you have the right documents and meet the basic requirements before applying for agricultural subsidies in Gujarat.
The iKhedut portal offers life-changing financial assistance, but these government funds are strictly regulated. To prevent fraud and ensure the money reaches the genuine farmers who need it most, the Government of Gujarat has established clear eligibility criteria. Before you spend time following our Registration Guide, you must ensure you meet these basic requirements and possess the correct documentation.
Basic Eligibility Requirements
To apply for almost any scheme on the portal, from a Tractor Subsidy to crop protection assistance, you must meet the following baseline criteria:
- Residency: You must be a permanent resident of Gujarat state.
- Profession: You must be a bonafide, practicing farmer.
- Land Ownership: You must hold agricultural land in your name and possess the corresponding 8-A/7-12 land records. (Some specific schemes may apply to landless laborers or tenant farmers, but the vast majority require land ownership).
Crucial Documents Required
You cannot complete an application without these documents. Keep them handy before you log in to the portal:
- Aadhaar Card: This is mandatory. It is used to uniquely identify you and prevent duplicate applications.
- Active Bank Account (Passbook): Subsidies are no longer paid in cash or checks; they are paid via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). You must provide details of an active bank account that is linked to your Aadhaar card.
- Mobile Number: You need a working mobile number, preferably the one linked to your Aadhaar, to receive OTPs for registration and SMS updates about your application.
- Land Records: A copy of your 8-A and 7-12 Utara, which proves your land ownership and size (which often determines the subsidy percentage).
- Caste Certificate (If Applicable): Farmers belonging to SC or ST categories often receive higher subsidy percentages. You must possess a valid caste certificate to claim these benefits.
Specific Scheme Rules
Meeting the basic criteria does not guarantee approval for every scheme. Each specific yojana has its own rules. For example, if you are applying for a Solar Pump, you must have a verified water source. Additionally, there are "cooling off" periods; if you received a subsidy for a rotavator last year, you cannot apply for another one immediately.
By ensuring your documents are in order and understanding the rules, you drastically reduce the chance of your application being rejected. Once you are confident, proceed to apply and then monitor your progress using our Application Status Guide.
